The remodeling of the first floor of the downtown Orlando Public Library began in August 2002 with the relocation of materials to other floors.
Magazines and periodicals were relocated to their new home on 4th Floor and audio visual materials and fiction books were temporarily relocated to the 2nd floor in an area normally not accessible to the general public.
Staff tagged each shelf of books and the shelves where they would be relocated. Professional movers boxed the books and then moved shelving to the new locations and relocated the books to the newly marked shelves.
Most of this took place after hours on on weekends in order to minimize disruption of service.
