Orlando Police Chief Robert Chewning

Robert Chewning was appointed Police Chief for the City of Orlando in 1967 by Mayor Carl Langford.

As chief, Chewning promoted the first black police lieutenant and allowed black police officers to patrol outside black neighborhoods.

 

Robert Joseph Chewning was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 22, 1923 and passed away on November 9, 2006. View the beautiful tribute replete with many photographs created for his memorial service.
