Granddaughter Betty Wheeler recalls the beautiful camphor tree in front of her grandparents home and notes the home came with an orange grove. Her grandfather, Mr. Samuel Emmett Rhodes, was the Superintendent at Plymouth Citrus Cooperative Plant in Plymouth, Florida. The plant is still there today.

The orange groves in College Park were developed into homesteads and Winter Park Avenue is now a paved road. Samuel and Hattie’s home was replaced by a newer one, but the old camphor tree is still out front.

Orlando native, Betty (Cangelose) Wheeler, has many happy memories of visiting her grandparents in College Park and living with them along with her mother Corrie (Rhodes) Cangelose, while her father, Joseph J. Cangelose, served in the Army Air Corps in Europe during WWII.
