ABOVE: The Friends sponsored Ye Olde Book Sale each year to raise money for library equipment. This photo is one of the book sales at the Winter Park Mall which was located on Hwy. 17-92 between Webster and Gay Road.

The Friends of the Orange County Library System have provided invaluable support throughout the years.  From the very first book sale, to today’s beautiful gift shop and inviting bookstore, trace the history of the Friends.

ABOVE: Cover of the Friends of the Library Newsletter from January 1979. Branches of the Orlando Public Library System at that time included Fort Gatlin, Kissimmee, Pine Hills, St. Cloud, Booker T. Washington, Eastland, Northgate, North Orange, Washington Shores and West Orange. Text: Good branches are based on a strong Main library. Services offered by the Main library include printing, books by mail, audio visual, information collections, purchasing, and cataloging, interlibrary loan and talking books.

Text: An exclusive report to the Friends – First Annual Ye Olde Book Sale. (A public announcement will be made at a later date).
What: A gigantic used book sale to be sponsored by the Friends of the Orlando Public Library.
Where: In the Colonial Plaza Mall
When: May 21st and 22nd
Why: To involve the Friends of the Library in a major project which will benefit the community by increasing their awareness
of books and of library services and to earn money to buy equipment for the Orlando Public Library to better serve the community.
How: Through involvement of each and every active member of the Friends of the Orlando Public Library to the greatest possible extent.
